New Street apartment, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong
Set in a quiet part of Sheung Wan, we were asked to renovate this apartment for a previous client as an investment property. This apartment is located on the 1st floor of a typical Tong Lau Hong Kong building complete with large balcony and very private terrace at the rear.
The apartment was configured as a one bedroom with separate walk in robe and open kitchen. The large terrace provides a leafy oasis looking onto the rockface of an old retaining wall and neighboring greenery.
A neutral palette of smoky grey timbers, whites, taupe and black tones were used throughout for the materials using both old and new. Fortunately the original tiles on the front balcony were able to be retained to add to the charm of the overall ambience of the apartment.
The original black steel windows in the bedroom were restored back to their former glory and new matching windows and doors were manufactured for the living and kitchen areas to retain the character of the original building. The original tiles were able to be retained on the balcony.
